Coordinates pack-level control, communications, balancing, and protection logic.
A distributed master and satellite battery management system for EV packs that need close-to-cell sensing, pack-level control, and simple integration with the rest of the system.

BetterBMS separates near-cell measurement from pack-level decision making. One master works with one or more satellite boards, providing a flexible way to supervise a small pack, a large pack, or a system split across multiple enclosures.

Coordinates pack-level control, communications, balancing, and protection logic.

Lives close to the cells for voltage and temperature sensing at the module level.
Each satellite can monitor up to 18 series cell groups and up to five temperature inputs. The master gathers the pack data, manages balancing, state of charge, state of health, main and precharge contactors, and calculated charge and discharge limits.
Satellite-to-master communication uses a low-voltage IsoSPI pair. A separate external controller area network connects the pack to the vehicle control unit using the SAE J1939 message set.
Voltage sensing, temperatures, and communications are separated at the connector level to make harnessing more deliberate. Each satellite voltage-sense input is fused. Configuration and firmware updates are handled over controller area network, with EVDrive matching the system to the chemistry, topology, current limits, and thermal plan.
